Many of our OPI Blue users have a cellular modem that facilitates their internet connection between their equipment at their bin site and the cloud servers that OPIsystems Inc. uses to host the OPI Blue system. Some of these cell modems are 3G modems, and some of them are LTE (or 4G). As technology advances telecommunication companies are decommissioning their 3G networks which will mean that any 3G cell modems will stop working after the "sunset date" on the 3G technology.
As of the time of writing this article the networks that are most commonly used with OPI and their 3G sunset dates are as follows:
- AT&T: 3G Network Sunset scheduled for December 31st, 2021
- Verizon: 3G Network Sunset was scheduled for December 31st, 2019
- Telus Mobility: 3G Network Sunset scheduled for December 31st, 2025
- Rogers Wireless: 3G Network Sunset scheduled for December 31st, 2025
NOTE: This means that anyone using a Cell Modem and a Verizon SIM card will have to have an LTE modem already.
These are the most commonly used cellular networks with OPI Blue Systems. If you do not see your network listed here then you will need to contact your network to ask them about their 3G sunset plans if you are unsure.
